Deployment Options
You can let InRule host the Decision Platform for you, or you can host it yourself. When you host it yourself, you choose where it runs: on any platform that runs Linux containers, in your own Azure subscription, or on your own Windows servers.
| Option | Where it runs | Who runs it |
|---|---|---|
| InRule SaaS | InRule's cloud | InRule |
| Docker containers | Any platform that runs Linux containers | Your organization |
| Azure Marketplace | Azure App Services in your own subscription | Your organization |
| IIS Web Deploy | Your own Windows servers | Your organization |
| InRule Installer | Your users' Windows computers, for irAuthor | Your organization |
InRule SaaS
InRule hosts and manages the platform for you. You don't install or maintain servers.
A good fit when you want to focus on writing and running rules, not on running infrastructure.
To get started, see InRule SaaS Portal.
Self-Hosted Options
When you self-host, your organization installs and runs InRule on infrastructure it controls.
Docker Containers
Run InRule as containers, published on Docker Hub, on any platform that runs Linux containers, such as Kubernetes, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or Google Cloud. The images are Linux images built for the amd64 processor architecture (linux/amd64). The containers include everything you need to self-host:
- Catalog Service – Stores and versions your rule applications
- Catalog Manager – The website for managing the catalog
- Decision Services – Runs your rules
A good fit when your organization uses containers, or wants to run InRule on a cloud other than Azure.
You can try the containers on your own computer with Docker Desktop. For production, organizations typically run them on a container orchestrator such as Kubernetes.
To get started, see Docker Container Deployment.
Azure Marketplace
Deploy Decision Services into your organization's own Azure subscription, from Azure Marketplace or with InRule's Azure Resource Manager (ARM) template.
A good fit when your organization already runs its applications in Azure.
To get started, see Azure Marketplace.
IIS Web Deploy
Install Decision Services, the part of InRule that runs your rules, on your own Windows servers with Internet Information Services (IIS).
A good fit when your organization runs its own Windows servers.
To get started, see IIS Web Deploy.
InRule Installer
The InRule Installer installs InRule components on Windows computers. Its primary use is desktop deployment of irAuthor to your users' Windows computers. irAuthor desktop remains on the full-framework version of .NET. You choose which components to install:
- Rule authoring – irAuthor, the InRule authoring and testing tool, and its extensions: irX for Microsoft Dynamics 365, irX for Salesforce, and irX for JavaScript
- Development – irSDK, the Software Development Kit for building rule processing into your applications
- Server – irCatalog, irCatalog Manager (Windows and website versions), and the irServer Rule Execution Service. These are full-framework versions. The irServer Rule Execution Service is retired and replaced by Decision Services.
The installer-based versions of the server components are for local development and testing only. For server-based and production scenarios, use Docker containers, Azure Marketplace, or IIS Web Deploy.
Version 5.9.0 is the last installer that deploys the full set of services. Moving forward, the installer delivers a simplified, irAuthor-only installation.
A good fit when you need irAuthor or irSDK on a Windows computer, or want a local development or test environment on Windows. For production, use InRule SaaS or one of the other self-hosted options.
To get started, see InRule Installer.
